[origin: EP0775987A2] The modular franking accountancy system (1) comprises a credit restoration system (105), a code information system (191) and an open franking system (5). Accountancy reports on mail franking and credit restoration are contained within the general purpose computer and franking security unit in the open franking system. When comparison has authenticated these reports data from the general purpose computer and the franking security unit (300) (310) are combined (320) and encrypted (330) to form an authentication mark (340) which is stored in the general purpose computer and printed on the accountancy report.
