Abstract (en)

[origin: DE19504635A1] A coupling piece is disclosed for detachably interconnecting corner fittings of stacked containers on board of ships. Container coupling operations are partly automated in many respects in order to reduce manual operations. The perfect operation of such coupling pieces essentially depends on the respect of various particularities of operation, otherwise a faulty operation results. In order to avoid such faulty operations, the disclosed coupling piece is easy to operate without errors. An actuating device (22) for twisting a locking bolt (21) provided with crossmembers (32, 33) for interconnecting the containers has a cable (49) with two traction ropes (57, 57) centrally joined to the locking bolt (21). The two traction ropes (57, 58) allow the locking bolt (21) to be twisted both clockwise and anticlockwise. This allows incorrect operations to be reversed, and also the coupling piece may be arranged between the containers to be interconnected with its crossmember (32) positioned up or down. Finally, the containers may be uncoupled at will, so that the coupling piece remains on the lower container or is lifted from the lower container together with the upper container.
