Abstract (en)

[origin: DE19545839C1] A method for handling the lead section of the weft thread (16) inserted into the shed of an air jet loom equipped with a fabric guide laid out over the nominal breadth entails passing the lead section by a first cutter, a second cutter then a thread monitor (4) ensuring full confirmation of thread arrival and drawing it optionally under suction into the channel (14) of a weft thread pulling nozzle (6). On successful weft insertion a suction device (8) located prior to the monitor is activated and the pulling jet deactivated simultaneously so the lead section of the weft is gripped by the device without need of auxiliary warp threads, cut off by the second cutter and removed by the device. Also claimed incorporating the method is a loom comprising heddle frame for shed formation, the fabric guide, at least one reed (1) with weft insertion channel (1a), at least one reed filling piece after the reed to support and guide the weft thread during jet insertion, the first and at least one second cutter, each being capable of connection to a laying-in device, the thread monitor at the shed exit of the weft and at least one thread pulling nozzle after the monitor. The opening (8a) of the suction device lies in the weft insert channel plane, i.e. downstream at the reed strike position before the thread monitor.
