[origin: EP0779087A2] The toy has opposing side walls (18), which form a channel (14) through which water (16) flows. A rotating paddle wheel (30) is mounted in a bearing (34,36) on each of the walls, using axle spigots (42,48). The wheel has at least one vane (54) which stretches across the channel, and which is connected to the spigots so that it immerses in the channel during the rotation of the wheel, and moves through the water in order to create a flow in the direction of the channel. A free space which extends upwards is arranged between the axle spigots on the vanes which are above the channel. The space may be formed by a cutout (66,68) between the spigots, or a curving of the vanes. One of the spigots may also be lifted from its bearing, while the other spigot is retained in its bearing.
