[origin: EP0779601A2] The method involves data entry and switching of the machine (40) into a communication or credit interrogation mode. A link is established to a data centre (50) where the entry is checked for plausibility and the interrogation begins when a credit card number is input. The status of the card is verified from a card processing centre (60) before downloading is commenced or the data entry repeated or the machine switched into a communication mode. Listed information of successful interrogations is sent to the processing centre, which then receives payment from the client bank (10) and notifies the postal authority's bank (30).
