[origin: DE4432059A1] The proposal is for circuits for operating an electric motor (11) containing a monitoring device (25) for detecting overloads in the electric motor (11). In a first embodiment, the monitoring device (25) compares the motor voltage (UM) with a predetermined motor voltage limit and, if the motor voltage (UM) drops below it, issues an overload signal (26). In another embodiment, the monitoring device compares the motor current (IM) with a predetermined motor current limit and issues an overload signal (26) if said limit is exceeded, the motor current limit being dependent on the motor voltage (UM). The circuits of the invention for operating an electric motor (11) are suitable for use in a ventilator system, the fan (23) of which cools the electric motor (11) and/or a final stage (18).
