[origin: EP0780075A1] The section (8), along one side of the bed (1), can be lowered from the uppermost position to allow access to the bed surface. It is also lockable at one or both ends in intermediate positions. The protective section (10,11) extends along its top for part of its length. It is in the inactive position with the side-section in the uppermost position, but in intermediate and particularly lowermost positions protects the patient's head.
