Abstract (en)
[origin: WO9606933A1] A method to genetically modify mammalian cells to render them less susceptible to an inflammatory or immunological stimulus, particularly to alleviate thrombogenicity in endothelial cells subject to inflammatory or immune activation, is described, comprising genetically modifying the cells by inserting therein DNA encoding thrombomodulin and thereby expressing functional thrombomodulin from these cells under cellular activating conditions. The method, which can be carried out either in vivo or in vitro (ex vivo), is indicated for use in transplantation as well as to treat systemic or local inflammatory conditions characterized by thrombosis.
