[origin: WO9610354A1] In a process and device, at first the desired consistency is set by means of a selector switch (8) and the storage temperature of an egg to be cooked is set by means of another selector switch (9), when the desired values are not yet set. The egg is then set on scales (2) for measuring its weight. At the same time, an air pressure measurement device incorporated into the housing (1) measures the air pressure. These data are supplied to a computer that calculates the egg cooking time based on the thus set and determined parameters and on a stored relation between egg size, desired consistency and cooking time, and that displays the cooking time on a display (4). When the cooking time has elapsed, an optical and/or acoustical signal is emitted to warn the user that the egg is to be removed from the boiling water.
