Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0787808A1] In-line pickling process for hot strip, especially low carbon steel, directly behind a thin slab casting and rolling line, with the following process stages: (a) mild cooling of the strip leaving the rolling line at ≥ 880 degrees C to 480 degrees C in two successive cooling sections, each with following recovery sections for temperature equalisation of edges and core; (b) sharp cooling from 480 degrees C to ca. 95 degrees C in a third cooling section, followed by a third recovery section for temperature equalisation at ca. 100 degrees C; (c) passing the strip through a number of chemical pickling tanks according to strip thickness and/or speed at corresponding pickling temperatures; and (d) rinsing, drying and coiling of the pickled strip. Appropriate process equipment is also claimed.
