[origin: EP0788292A1] The hotplate (1) has heating elements (3) subject to a controller (5) with memory (9) which monitors and adjusts the temperature of the heated surface (2). A control panel (6) coupled to the controller affords free selection of the type and intensity of cooking. The controller associates each selection with a particular temperature of the heated surface. The nature of the food may also be entered as a parameter, and the cooking time may be controlled as well as the temperature.
