[origin: EP0789340A1] The security element consists of a high permeability material with low coercive force (a weakly magnetic material) which emits a characteristic signal when an alternating external magnetic field is applied to an interrogation zone. The emitted signal is identified by a detection device. A material (2) with a large Barkhausen effect is arranged relative to the weakly magnetic material (1) so that both materials are coupled via their stray fields (7). A semi-hard or hard magnetic material (6) is used to pre-magnetise the material with the large Barkhausen effect.
