Abstract (en)
At the use of interactive data services on the packet based Internet, the data carrier is only utilized at times. Between the data transmissions the user makes for instance pauses to take care of and evaluate the information which he/she has collected from the database, at which the carrier is unutilized. For certain services and users the circuit switched and comparatively expensive service which GSM offers today is not cost optimal in relation to the active utilization. Either does the user pay for the time his/her communication is silent, or he/she sets up and disconnects the transmission according to his/her need. The latter is very time-consuming because the user for instance has to authenticate himself/herself each time towards his/her server. The invention solves this by providing a completely digital connection between the mobile unit and the server in question. The mobile user sets up a session towards the server in known way by calling and authenticating himself/herself by means of password and user identity. This session is active until the mobile user by a special procedure breaks the session or, alternatively, by one with the system cooperating time interval unit, in form of for instance a timer, expires. The session will after that be superior to a number of connections and disconnections on the GSM-channel. <IMAGE>
