[origin: DE19532172A1] The invention concerns a method of providing greenery in areas which have no vegetation or varying humidity on a base which is porous or capable of being rooted, in particular flat roofs, embankments or the like. The method comprises the following steps: a) applying to the area a mat (1) of material capable of being rooted; b) sowing or planting seeds or cuttings of xerophytes or plants with varying moisture requirements in or on the mat (1); and c) allowing the plants to take root in and cover the mat (1). Step b) can also be carried out before step a).
