Abstract (en)
[origin: WO9324273A1] A device for machining the edge of spectacle lenses has at least one tool which can engage the circumferential edge of a spectacle lens and which is arranged on a tool holder; a clamping unit for the spectacle lens which rotates the spectacle lens around an axis of rotation approximately perpendicular to the lens apex, so that the whole circumferential edge may be successively brought into engagement with the tool; a control unit which controls the distance between the tool holder and the clamping unit (advance) depending on the angle of rotation PHI of the clamping unit around its axis of rotation; and a sensor unit with at least one first sensor which detects the distance r between the marginal area which faces it and the axis of rotation as a function of the angle of rotation PHI , and whose output signal is supplied as a real value for the dimensions of the spectacle lens to the control unit which controls the advance on the basis of a comparison between set and real values. The disclosed device is characterized in tthat the first sensor senses a marginal area of the spectacle lens which faces it and which is separated from the engagement site of the tool by an angular distance alpha <> 0 DEG with respect to the axis of rotation and/or by a linear distance in the direction of the axis of rotation. The clamping unit for the spectacle lens or the tool holder is moved during machining and/or before fine polishing is finished in such a way that the sensor senses the distance from the just processed marginal area.
