[origin: EP0790387A1] The hard metal bit (10) has a head (14) with a cutting edge (12) and a foot piece (16) which matches the geometry of a receiver slot (36) in the tool. The distance between the side faces (18,20) of the foot piece in at least one section (24) of the foot piece is greater than the edge area of the side faces of the foot piece. To manufacture the masonry drill, the receiver slot and the foot piece are brought together and the drill bit inserted into the slot. One of the side walls of the slot on the front face (37) of the drill head is blocked off to prevent the bit from falling out. The hard metal bit is then brazed in position.
