[origin: WO9614851A1] The invention relates to a method for reducing serum cholesterol levels in a patient which comprises administering to the patient an effective amount of a cationic cellulose derivative having quaternary ammonium groups attached to the cellulose chains. The cationic cellulose derivatives are effective in absorbing cholic acid in the intestine but do not have the disadvantages such as unpleasant taste associated with known medicaments which bind cholic acid such as cholestyramine resin.
