Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0792698A2] There is provided apparatus for dip coating comprising a drum (24) having an outer surface to be coated, an upper end and a lower end, at least one coating vessel (12) having a bottom (16), an open top (20) and a cylindrically shaped vertical interior wall (18) having a diameter greater than the diameter of said drum (24), an inlet (14) at said bottom (16) of said vessel (12), said inlet (14) adapted to feed flowing coating fluid into said vessel (12), a mandrel (25) adapted to maintain said outer surface of said drum (24) in a concentric relationship with said vertical interior wall (18) of said cylindrical coating vessel (12) while said drum (24) is immersed in said flowing coating material, said outer surface of said drum (24) being radially spaced from said vertical interior wall (18) of said cylindrical coating vessel (12), and at least one flow regulating means adapted to maintain laminar flow motion of said coating material as said fluid passes between said outer surface of said drum (24) and said vertical interior wall (18) of said vessel. A dip coating process is also provided. <IMAGE>
