[origin: DE19607475C1] In a calender for satinising paper webs of different widths, the web passes through the nip (7) of a press formed between a heated hard roll (2) and a soft roll (3) provided with an elastic covering (6). The press has moving belts (11) of a thermally insulating material which substantially cover at least that part of the soft roll covering (6) not covered by the paper web.

Ein Kalander zum Satinieren von Papier weist einen Walzenspalt (7) auf, der durch eine beheizbare harte Walze (2) und eine mit einem elastischen Bezug (5) versehene weiche Walze (3) begrenzt ist. Eine Überhitzung der von der Papierbahn freien Randbereiche des Bezuges (5) wird durch umlaufende, die Wärmeübertragung vermindernde Isolationsbänder (11) verhindert, die zumindest im Walzenspalt (7) die von der Bahn (8a) freien Randbereiche des Bezugs (5) abdecken. <IMAGE>
