[origin: WO9712104A1] The invention relates to a drive for awnings with an awning fabric (14), extension arms (16) which exert sufficient force on the fabric (14) to unroll it, and a roller tube (34) operating together with a braking device in the unrolling direction. The drive (32) is in operative connection with the roller tube (34) via a freewheel device (53, 54, 55) and the braking device exerts a braking force on the roller tube (34) which is greater than the propulsive power of the freewheel device acting in the unrolling direction.
