The apparatus for comminuting metal and similar materials incorporates an impact tool (5) rotating about an axis (6), and a grating or wear plate (9) with openings (10). The material strips left between the openings run along lines which, at least in the direction of the axis (6), deviate from a straight line.

Bei einer Hammermühle sind die die Öffnungen begrenzenden Stege so ausgebildet, daß ihr Verlauf zumindest in Richtung der Achse des Schlagwerkzeugs von einer geraden Linie abweicht. Dies wird beispielsweise durch fünf- oder sechseckige Öffnungen erreicht, die zickzacklinienförmige Stege zur Folge haben. Dies führt im Einsatz zu einer geringeren Längung der Roste oder Schleißplatten und ermöglicht den Einsatz von austenitischem Stahl als Werkstoff. <IMAGE>
