A proportion of each sale amount is calculated and added to the total in a jackpot prize accumulator (1) by means of a jackpot price increment signal (6). Potential buyers entering a participating store and made aware of the current value of the jackpot prize and that they have a chance of winning the jackpot prize by purchasing goods.
