Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0796992A1] The control process is for the vehicle electric starter motor (D) which is mounted between a positive battery supply terminal (B+) and earth, with a contact (1) inserted between the supply and the motor. The contact is controlled by a winding (2) similarly connected between the supply and earth which is controlled by a MOSFET switch (3) whose grid is controlled by an electronic circuit (4). This circuit controls the winding supply in different phases of operation: closing the contact, holding the contact, and automatic release after the starting of the engine. The signal used to operate the MOSFET switch is subject to a time control circuit (8), so that the contact closing signal is only maintained for a predetermined time after switching on. The current through the winding is thus cut or reduced after a set time, and completely cut once the speed of the engine is detected to have reached a given threshold.
