[origin: EP0798688A1] The knitted fabric (10), for flags and the like, is structured with heavier knitted zones which are impermeable to air and lighter knitted zones which are air permeable. The knitted material has interruption openings (16) through patterning by a number of guide rails. A diamond pattern is formed with a diagonal crossing lines (15) of the material round a biaxial fixing in the diagonal directions of the fabric (10). There are 10-150 small openings (16) for each inner field (17) of the diamond (12) within the pattern width of the edging (14) forming the reinforcing zone. Also claimed is a prodn. process using three guide bars. In the first two guide bars two yarns are in a guide needle, 16 yarns each in a guide needle and eight times one empty guide needle and two yarns in a guide needle. A third guide bar has a repeat of 36 yarns each in a guide needle, for knitting with the guide bar movements to impose a diamond design. According to the patterning, the width of the reinforcement edging of a number of openings is controlled.
