[origin: WO9619580A2] Genes encoding the amino acid sequences of the protein component of Tetrahymena telomerase and methods for their preparation and use are disclosed. The protein component is comprised of two subunit polypeptides, and 80 kD and a 95 kD polypeptide. Methods for deducing the protein component of human telomerase and its uses are also described. The telomerase protein component may be used to develop diagnostic procedures for detection of telomerase activity in cancers, microbial diseases, and other disorders, and to produce therapeutic compounds to inhibit or enhance telomerase activity.
