Abstract (en)

[origin: WO9619674A1] The invention concerns a device (1) for limiting the volumetric flow in a system through which a pressurized fluid can flow, the system comprising a flow duct (2). The device (1) has a main axis (3a) and a swirl-generating component (4) which, in order to generate swirling, is arranged at a distance from the main axis (3a) and adapted to introduce the fluid into the flow duct (2). The device (1) is preferably in the form of a structural unit comprising the swirl-generating component (4), a diffuser (7) and a cross-sectional narrowing component (5). The main axis (3a) of the device (1) is preferably parallel to the axis (3) of the flow duct (2) such that the swirl-generating component (4) produces a tangential speed component of the fluid in a plane perpendicular to the axis (3), whereby the volumetric flow (2) is reduced when there is a breakage or leak in the flow duct (2). Narrowing the cross-section of the flow duct (2) by means of the cross-sectional narrowing component (5) further reduces the volumetric flow. The invention further concerns the use of the device in the cooling system of a nuclear reactor plant.
