[origin: WO9621073A1] The proposal is for a device for mechanically securing an article against theft in which the device comprises a first holding component (12) with a securing surface (18) for securing to an object, a second holding component (14) for securing to the article, a cable (16) connecting both holding components and connecting components (22, 34) for the holding components with undercut sections to provide a releasable interlocking retaining joint between the two holding components (12, 14). The device is made very easily handlable in that at least one of the connecting components (22, 34) comprises an undercut section with a mating surface (54) inclined in relation to the securing surface (18) in such a way that the retaining joint can be released by a force acting perpendicularly to the securing surface.
