[origin: EP0801287A2] A fragmentation shell (1) with improved penetration comprises: (i) a base fuse (2) projecting into a bore (74) in the fragmentation charge (70) and confined by an edge seal (57); and (ii) a fragmentation charge casing (24). A rear section (62, 64) of the fuse projects into the space for the propellant charge (68) in the shell case (4). The fuse also has a section with ogive-shaped sides entering the bore (74) and there is a ring-shaped end face (72) at the end of the fragmentation charge (70). The length (50) of the fuse projects roughly equally (52, 54) into the fragmentation shell and into the propellant charge chamber (68) of the shell case (4).
