[origin: DE19500600C1] The space (2) inside the drum of the centrifuge described is separated from the drain-off space (4) by a protective wall (3). The two flat surfaces of the wall (3) are associated with a first barrier (5) and a second barrier (6) which are hermetically joined to each other and fixed in place by a cylinder element (7) that extends through the inside diameter of the protective wall (3). The first barrier (5) descends below the level of the liquid inside the drum and the second barrier (6) below that of the liquid in the drain-off space (4). The two barriers (5 and 6) form a pressure chamber (9) acted on by pressure supplied through a gas-supply channel (10) and a gas-supply line (11), the pressure causing the level (D) of the liquid inside the drum to be moved radially inwards. Changing the gas pressure enables the liquid to be adjusted to any level between D and d.
