Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0802381A2] Process for drying sludge to produce a dry fine grained bulk solid is described. During the drying process, a quantity of the previously-dried bulk solid is added to the drying sludge. The novelty is that the quantity of dried bulk solid which has been produced by drying earlier sludge is measured, and that the quantity of dried bulk solid added to the moist sludge is inversely proportional to the quantity of fine grained bulk solid material which will be produced by drying the moist batch. Preferably the quantity of fine grained bulk solid produced from a given quantity of sludge is measured at intervals or on a continual basis, and the quantity of dry bulk solid which is added to the drying sludge is adjusted accordingly. Preferably the temperature and quantity of dry sludge grains discharged is measured and used as a process control function regulating the quantity of incoming moist sludge.
