[origin: WO9601764A1] A packaging machine (10) for packaging layers (38, 44) of articles (A) in a carton (100) separated by a divider panel (13) having deformable portions (62) for nesting between adjacent articles (A) on opposite sides of the panel (13), which machine (10) positions a divider panel (13) at one end of a first article (38) such that the deformable portions (62) are located in registery with an end of the article (38) and deforms the deformable portions (62) such that the end of the article (38) and deformable portions (62) are at least partially nested and positions a second article (44) in nested relationship with the first article (38) and divider panel (13).
