Abstract (en)
In a method of generating a heat treatment atmosphere by catalytic reaction of an oxygen-containing first gas mixture (12) with a hydrocarbon-containing second gas mixture (26) in a catalytic reactor (16), the reactor (16) is positioned vertically and is supplied with the gas mixtures at its bottom (19), the heat treatment atmosphere being recovered at the top (20) of the reactor. The first gas mixture is impure nitrogen of ≥ 0.5 (2-7)% residual oxygen concentration, from air separation by the membrane process and/or by adsorption, or is a mixture of air and nitrogen of cryogenic origin. Te second gas mixture is an industrial by-product with a total CO, H2 and hydrocarbon content of ≥ 50 vol.%. Also claimed is a heat treatment atmosphere-generating plant, especially for carrying out the above process.

L'invention concerne un procédé d'élaboration d'une atmosphère de traitement thermique, par réaction catalytique, entre un premier mélange gazeux (12) comportant de l'oxygène et un second mélange gazeux (26) comportant un hydrocarbure, dans un réacteur catalytique (16), se caractérisant en ce que le réacteur catalytique est disposé en position sensiblement verticale et en ce que l'on fait entrer les mélanges réactionnels dans le réacteur catalytique par le bas (19) du réacteur, pour récupérer l'atmosphère de traitement thermique résultant de la réaction par le haut (20) du réacteur. <IMAGE>
