[origin: WO9603093A1] The invention provides bioprosthetic implants from which the lipids have been removed by treatment with enzymes which degrade lipids, and methods of making and using the same. The enzymes include lipases and phospholipases. The removal of lipids from the bioprosthetic implants according to the present invention decreases the calcification of the bioprosthesis. The bioprosthetic implants preferably may be recellularized with fibroblasts or myofibroblasts before implanting the bioprosthesis in the body of a person.
