[origin: WO9718379A1] A turnstile with a housing (2), a drive and a locking element (3) with a barrier arm (4) is set in motion following verification of the access authorisation of a user (18) wishing to pass, rotating the barrier arm (4) from its blocking position into a position out of the line of passage. The advance of the user (18) is then detected by a downstream sensor, in particular an opto-electronic sensor (5), which causes the barrier arm (4) to rotate further in the same direction into the blocking position.
