[origin: CA2211805A1] A rotor manufactured from a fibre composite material wherein the modulus of the fibre composite material decreases progressively from the outside of the rotor to the inside of the rotor. More specifically, the modulus of the fibre composite material is decreased by increasing the number of fibres in a tow of the material which are broken. As a result, radial strain across a rotor formed from fibre composite material can be controlled during manufacture to improve the performance of the rotor, especially when used in an energy storage and conversion device.
