[origin: EP0805261A1] The rings are built up of reinforced concrete segments, the lengthwise joint seams in each ring being offset from those in the adjacent ones. Recesses are formed in one end face of each ring and protrusions on the other, fitting together with protrusions and recesses on adjacent rings, seam inserts being fitted between them. The protrusions and recesses (2,3) are rounded, forming an undulating cross-section, and the inserts (4) are fitted between them at the crests of the undulations. The central curved portion (6) of the recess can be of smaller radius than that of the protrusion, and the contact faces (7) between the curved portions can be flat and parallel. The contour can be trapezium-shaped with radiused edges, and the inserts can extend along the contact faces.
