Abstract (en)
[origin: WO9623213A1] Apparatus (12) and method for detection and separation of biological molecules that are tagged with a photosensitive label. Molecules are separated by size, in both horizontal and vertical planes, in parallel electrophoretic path ways (18) in a gel matrix (16). An electric potential is applied to the gel matrix (16) while laser light excites the molecules as they migrate in a predetermined direction. The output light signals emitted from the excited molecules are detected, collected, stored and analyzed using a monitor (36), controller (35) and a digital data processor (37).
