[origin: EP0806349A1] The outer wrapping on a package is secured by a strap wrapped around the package. The ends are clamped (6) together and joined. The clamp (6) incorporates a transport device (11) which takes up slack in the strap and subjects the strap to a pre-set and controlled tension value while the strap ends are joined. The clamp and tensioning is acted by a lever (3). The drive may be exclusively for the use of transport movement in the future of transport units. The capture units value of the parameters is gripped on the transport mechanism.
