Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0806352A1] A tea bag (1) has two chambers (2,3) joined at their base (4) by a folding flap (5) and at the apex by a hot seal. During manufacture, two webs of tea filter paper advance at the same speed towards a hot-sealing assembly. The lower web receives a measured quantity of e.g. tea (26) at intervals. Four rows of tea leaves are dosed onto the lower web, before passing between a pair of hot-seal rollers (31,30). The rollers join the two webs together, by hot-sealing the top, base and sides of the bag, forming four rows of tea bags which are then cut from the web as strings. Individual bags are then cut from the strip, each with two chambers and are folded to shape with the head of each chamber hot sealed (15) to the other. Each unfolded bag forms a triangle in side-elevation.
