[origin: WO9623722A1] For control of the hoisting motor (5) in an elevator which comprises a number of landings (8) and in which the motor drive output is generated by using a speed reference and an angular speed signal and/or angle signal proportional to the rotation of the hoisting motor as a feedback signal. The position of the elevator car (1) in relation to the landing (8) is measured using a sensor (10) placed in the elevator car. The sensor produces a position signal proportional to the height difference between the landing and the floor of the elevator car. Using this continuous position signal, a reference for controlling the hoisting motor when the car is at or close to a landing is generated.
