The lamp operating circuit has a safety cut-out device responding to a DC voltage (UC3) across a coupling capacitor (C3) connected in series with the lamp, when a DC current component flows through the lamp. The safety cut-out device may have a threshold stage which is triggered by the DC voltage across the coupling capacitor and by the intermediate circuit voltage exceeding a given value.

Vorgeschlagen wird eine Schaltung zum Wechselspannungsbetrieb einer Entladungslampe über einen mit der Lampe zur Gleichstromtrennung in Reihe geschalteten Kopplungskondensator (C3) mit einer Sicherheitsabschalteinrichtung, die dadurch gekennzeichnet ist, daß die Sicherheitsabschalteinrichtung auf eine Gleichspannung (UC3) an dem Kopplungskondensator (C3) durch eine Gleichstromkomponente durch die Lampe anspricht. <IMAGE>
