Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0809021A2] The method involves first feeding electrical heating power to the glow plug (20-30) during a heating phase at a higher power level than the power which can be delivered without damaging the plug during continuous operation. The duration of the heating phase is selected so that no damage is caused to the glow plug. After the expiry of the heating phase the glow plug is operated with a power level corresp. to the maximum continuous power.
