[origin: WO9722107A1] A method of providing control of an electronic book (118) includes data from a machine-readable storage medium (136) installed in the electronic book (118), and displaying a page of text represented by the machine-readable data on a display portion (168) of a touchscreen (130) integrated in the electronic book (118). A first portion (170), a second portion (178) and a third portion (180) of the touchscreen (130) are designated for receiving a first, second or third user-initiated event which request that a subsequent, previous or pre-marked page be displayed on the touchscreen (130), respectively. A fourth portion (186) of the touchscreen (130) is designated for receiving a fourth user-initiated event which requests that a library screen be displayed on the touchscreen (130). A fifth portion (186) of the touchsreen (130) is designated for receiving a fifth user-initiated event which requests that the page be marked.
