Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0811434A1] Operating a rolling plant incorporates one or more preliminary upsetting stands followed by a compact rolling group which is laterally offset and consists of two universal or duo stands (UG1, UG2) and an interposed upsetting stand (ZG). Blanks from the casting installation are fed directly (without intermediate storage) to the rolling plant. Within a predetermined time interval they are rolled into finished profiles and fed onto a laterally offset cooling bed (KB), after which new blanks enter into the compact rolling group. In cases where the time required for finish rolling is longer than the predetermined time interval (which depends on the output rate of the casting installation) a length of the finished product emerging from the compact rolling group is cut off and fed onto the cooling bed.
