Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0811724A1] The vertical trench cutter consists of a frame (1) with two pairs of cutting drums (2) on its lower end which are rotated to loosen the soil. The frame is also equipped with anchors (12) to engage with the trench walls and telescopic thrust units (10) which apply a pressure to the cutting drums in the direction of the frame's lengthwise axis. The trench cutter frame also has positioners (11) to guide it relative to the trench, while the frame itself comprises a tool carrier (1a) which supports the drums and their drive motor, and an anchoring section (1b). During operation the soil loosened by the cutting drums is sucked up by a pump (5) and discharged above the trench level.
