Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0811823A1] An explosive projectile (1), designed to discharge an active material (4) such as shrapnel, an incendiary or smoke-generating substance, has at least one explosive charge (2) and a system for concentrating at least part of the active material in the direction of a target when the explosive charge is detonated. The explosive charges and active material are carried by sub-assemblies (5) mounted on supports (6) which can move relative to the body (7) of the projectile. The projectile has a system (23) for deploying the sub-assemblies into positions outside the body of the projectile so that when the explosive charges are detonated the active material is discharged basically in one direction, e.g. axially. The sub-assemblies are in the shape of sections of a cylinder which are deployed outwards on hinges (9) through an angle of about 90 degrees . The projectile also has stabilising fins (22) which are deployed radially between the sub-assemblies.
