Abstract (en)

[origin: DE19621258C1] The stock inlet, for a papermaking machine, has a flow chamber which is at least generally of the same width as the fourdrinier, leading into an outlet jet (3) with an outlet gap (3.3). The flow units (3.41,3.51,3.61) are located within the outlet jet assembly (3). The surfaces of the flow units, in contact with the fibre suspension, can be varied to increase or decrease them while in operation. Preferably the flow units (3.41,3.51,3.61) are mounted in pockets (3.4,3.5,3.6) for extension wholly or partially from them in the flow direction. In operation, the width of the outlet gap (3.3) is unchanged or it can be adjusted. The flow units can be plates which extend at least over part of the fourdrinier width. The flow units (3.41,3.51,3.61) can be cylindrical round rods, fitting into matching round openings in the pockets (3.4,3.5,3.6), and they are flexible for the pockets to impose a deflection on them as they are extended, or they are rigid. The flow deflection units can be hollow, and connected to a source of under- or over-pressure. The surfaces of the flow units (3.41,3.51,3.61) have zones of differing roughnesses, in the flow direction. They can be extended from their pockets by 10-300 mm and pref. 50-200 mm.
