Abstract (en)

[origin: EP0813072A2] A system (100) for transferring digital information to spatially localizable portable electronic devices (170-178) has a plurality of portable electronic devices, with each portable electronic device supporting wireless communication (161-167, 181-185). A spatial localizing module (190, 192) determines spatial location with submeter precision for each of the plurality of electronic devices (170-178), and a communication module is connected to the spatial localizing module (190-192) for mediating wireless communication between the portable electronic devices (170-178). A user can define electronic data transfers between portable electronic devices (170-178) in user determined spatial locations with submeter precision. Data transfers are possible to adjacent electronic devices, electronic devices (170-176) within a defined radius (195), electronic devices along a defined bearing or having specific orientations, or even located within a defined set of regions or rooms (152, 154). The invention suitably makes use of a system (Fig. 2) for quickly and efficiently determining the spatial location of electronic devices with submeter scale precision. <IMAGE>
