Abstract (en)
[origin: EP0813913A2] The method involves using an optical arrangement to measure the height of the separated letters (SE). If a sudden change in height is detected by the optical measurement system as the letters pass though under repeated height measurements an overlap warning is generated. The letter heights are measured using an optical grid consisting of successive transmission diodes (S) and receiver diodes (E). The aperture angles of the diodes are selected to enable simultaneous and successive evaluation without mutual interference.
