[origin: EP0813954A1] The padded packing making process produces a packing (7) from paper or other sheet material, which is put together and deformed by tools. Eventually, a folded-together cover layer (2) is produced, into which at least one intermediate layer (2,3) is inserted. These layers are then acted on by a deforming tool (10,11) from the narrow side. In addition to this deformation, the base, which is folded but still flat, is pushed forward intermittently to produce a deformation in the longitudinal direction.
